Meg Jenkins Locke

Hello friends and family, Hope you are all doing well and staying safe. No news is good news. The past several months, I have been home with Kevin, regaining my strength and enjoying feeling good! Miss Meg and her crew-we got used to being together almost every day and night. (God bless her!) She comes here and I go to Hickory for porch visits. We’ve even met in the QT parking lot in Gastonia to visit. Thank goodness she doesn’t live far away! So grateful for this time. I still go to Winston about every 3 weeks or so but go to Statesville for labs weekly instead of WS. So much closer and the staff there is wonderful. Again, grateful for being able to go to the much smaller clinic-less driving but also less exposure to others during the pandemic. We are coming up on the one year mark since the transplant on 8/14/19. Because of this I will have some tests to see how things are going on 7/30 and 8/27. They will do a bone marrow biopsy on Thursday, I’ll get some more vaccinations (like a new baby) and meet with the doctor. We will get the full results of the biopsy probably the first of next week. Please pray that the biopsy goes well, that it is clear of all leukemia and any negative genetic markers and that I’m in remission. We are still praying for cure!🙏 Also, please pray that my labs are good and that my bone marrow gets stronger and more robust. (They like the word “robust” in Winston.) I’m out of AFib but still taking some major heart meds. Please pray that over time I can get off the meds. I hope that you all are finding ways to enjoy the days and de stress. As crazy and stressful as this time has been- pandemic, fear of Corona, not being able to see family and friends, etc. - we have tried to find joy in every day. We have been having porch visits with friends and fam- masked and at least 6 feet apart. Zoom calls with my sorority sisters from Winthrop have been so fun and hilarious! We’ve been canning, trying some new recipes and cooking every dang day🙀 We, and by that I mean Kevin, has been doing some much needed yard work after being away so much this past year. The house and yard needed some TLC. We’ve about got a handle on it! Our Victory Garden (planted and taken care of by our good neighbor friend, Faye) is looking great! We are going to have LOTS of tomatoes if all goes well-the plants are loaded! Remember, every day is a day in your life! Do something different, fun, relaxing- whatever makes you feel good. Thank you for all of your support and prayers. We feel it all and appreciate it more than you can know. ❤️ We are blessed to have each of you in our lives. Take good care of yourselves and one another. with love, Mary Mallette
