Dear Ones,

Here is a copy of Mary Mallette’s obituary that will run in The Herald tomorrow. I also added a few pictures that people have shared over the past few days…there have been storms, sunshine, and rainbows-every day our loss grows more real.

I miss her so and I know she is no longer suffering. Away from her earthy body, her love encircling each of us, I can see Daddy welcoming her with open arms, his lopsided grin, softly chuckling and saying, “Well done, you have finished the race and now we watch over and love them completely.”

With great sadness the family of Mary Mallette Jenkins Wood announces her death at age 61 from complications of Breast Cancer in 2015 leading to a two-year battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia beginning in 2019. Mary Mallette was born in Waynesboro, Virginia July 21st, 1959, and died in Rock Hill, South Carolina on July 7th, 2021, surrounded by her family at her home.

Mary Mallette, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt will forever be remembered by her husband of 35 years, Kevin, and their sons, George, and Robert. She was predeceased by her father, Coach Bob Jenkins and is survived by her mother, Margaret Mallette Henderson Jenkins, her sister, Meg Jenkins Locke (Ron), her aunt, Keller Barron, cousins Lewis Bumgardner (Ruth), George Bumgardner (Margaret Sue), Margaret Anne DuBose (Theodore), and Charles Bumgardner (Leslie) and her cousins precious children. A close and loving family, “MyMette” was adored by Will, Robert (Mariah) and Margaret Locke, her grandchildren, her school colleagues, extended family, and dear friends.

Mary Mallette was educated at Northwestern High School, Columbia College, and Winthrop University where she received her Master’s in Counseling. She was a charter member of the Zeta Tau Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi at Winthrop University. She spent many years volunteering with Zeta Tau upon her graduation and was a proud alumna. She was a member of the SC Counseling Association and a member of The Episcopal Church of Our Savior. After teaching special education in Charleston SC, she returned to Rock Hill to continue her illustrious career as a valued and adored elementary school guidance counselor in Rock Hill School District #3.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on July 17th, 2021, at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior at 11:00am.
